Product Description

Overview

The ABB IRB 6700Inv-300/2.60 is the inverted version of ABB's seventh generation high payload platform, mounting to a gantry or ceiling frame to hand 300 kg loads down into presses, fixtures and conveyors from above. Because the arm works overhead, the floor stays clear for forklifts, operators and material flow, which is why this industrial robot arm suits press shops that cannot spare a single square metre of aisle.

The manipulator is built for inverted duty with its own load ratings, reinforced wrist and sealed cable routing, and it reaches 2.60 m at the wrist centre. Running on the IRC5 controller with RobotWare, the same industrial robot arm handles stamping transfer, overhead machine tending and heavy handling with pose repeatability of 0.05 mm.

Advantages

  • Overhead mounting frees the entire floor area beneath the arm, so an inverted industrial robot arm drops into cells where a floor robot would block the aisle.
  • The 300 kg handling capacity of this industrial robot arm carries complete stamping tools, heavy grippers and multi-part fixtures without a derated cycle.
  • Load ratings, bearing sets and cable routing are engineered specifically for upside-down duty, so the arm keeps accuracy while hanging from a gantry.
  • IP67 sealing from base to wrist allows wash-down cleaning and keeps out metal dust, coolant mist and solid contaminants.
  • The Foundry Plus 2 option for this industrial robot arm adds epoxy paint, nickel plated tool flange and rust preventive for die casting and sand casting areas.
  • Modular gearboxes, motors and cables are swapped in place, which shortens maintenance stops on continuous three shift output.

Applications

  • Overhead press tending and inter-press transfer in stamping and forming shops, the classic duty of an inverted industrial robot arm.
  • Ceiling mounted handling of castings, billets and battery modules up to 300 kg.
  • Gantry loading of machining centres where floor space must stay open for logistics.
  • Die casting extraction and spray cycles under Foundry Plus 2 protection.
  • Spot welding of large assemblies approached from above the fixture.
  • Multi-robot cells where several inverted units share one overhead frame.

FAQ

How much can this inverted arm lift?
300 kg at nominal load, dropping to 270 kg when the LeanID integrated dressing option is selected, and the load diagram defines the permitted centre of gravity.

What structure is needed to hang the robot?
The industrial robot arm mounts to a steel gantry or ceiling frame sized for 1690 kg plus dynamic forces, and the frame must be levelled and stiffened before commissioning.

Does inverted mounting reduce accuracy?
No, ISO 9283 testing on this version gives 0.06 mm pose accuracy and 0.05 mm pose repeatability, because the bearings and load ratings of this industrial robot arm are engineered for inverted duty.

Can it work in a die casting cell?
The standard arm is IP67 rated and the Foundry Plus 2 package adds sealed cavities, coated surfaces and rust preventive for coolant spray and metal spits.

Which controller does it use?
This industrial robot arm runs on the IRC5 controller with RobotWare, including QuickMove 2 motion and optional Active Safety functions for workspace and speed supervision.

How is maintenance handled overhead?
Gearbox oil, motors and cabling are serviceable from a platform, and the modular design means one industrial robot arm part is replaced instead of a full arm rebuild.
