The ABB IRB 6700 series is ABB's seventh generation high payload industrial robot arm, developed from the IRB 6640 platform with a wider working envelope, higher wrist torque and a lighter, more compact structure. Ten models cover 150 kg to 300 kg handling capacity and 2.60 m to 3.20 m reach, so a single industrial robot arm family can equip an entire body shop, foundry or machine tending line without mixing platforms.
Each unit runs on the IRC5 controller with RobotWare, and the same industrial robot arm is offered in floor mounted and inverted versions so engineers can fit it around existing presses, fixtures and conveyors. The modular build keeps service simple, because cables, gearboxes and motors are replaced without dismantling the arm, which protects uptime on three shift production.

What payload and reach does this 235 kg version offer?
The 235/2.65 model handles 235 kg at a 2.65 m reach; selecting LeanID dressing lowers the payload to 220 kg, and other versions in the family run from 150 kg to 300 kg.
Why is high wrist torque important on a welding arm?
Spot welding guns and heavy grippers create large moments at axis 5 and axis 6, and the reinforced wrist of this industrial robot arm accepts that load while keeping acceleration and cycle time.
How accurate is the robot?
ISO 9283 testing gives 0.05 mm pose repeatability and 0.08 mm path repeatability on the 235/2.65 version, which is enough for fixture-based welding and precise machine loading.
Can it be mounted upside down?
Yes, the IRB 6700Inv versions are built for inverted mounting with their own load ratings, so an overhead industrial robot arm can serve presses from above.
Is it suitable for foundry and wash-down areas?
The standard arm is IP67 rated, and the Foundry Plus 2 option adds sealed cavities, coated surfaces and rust preventive for coolant spray, metal spits and casting dust.
Which controller and software are required?
This industrial robot arm runs on the IRC5 controller with RobotWare, and optional process packages cover spot welding, gluing, communication and sensor control.
